Long Ago forgotten...

Was this just an abandoned house? My husband and I stop at abandoned houses whenever we see them, but we've yet to get the courage to go inside.

We were at the estate auction 4 years ago and the weather was miserable. We asked the auctioneer if he would sell the contents of the root cellar and he said maybe. But then when he got to the last trailer it started storming -lightening straight down the whole works. So after that trailer they quit. I just happened to think about it the other day and wondered if the jars were still there. We drove over there and looked and low and behold they were still there. We went to the acessor's office and found out who owned the house. Talked to the owners and they said they'd let us clean it out. They had bought the house to turn into a rental but then 6 months later the local chicken processing plant closed and a lot of renters moved away.

Just curious, I know that as part of your agreement to get the jars you also cleaned out the broken ones. How did you get rid of all that broken glass?

Scoop Shovel and a shop broom. There was still a bit of glass down there under the shelves, but we got the majority of it out of there.

These pictures touched me, deeply. I can't say why really other than that seeing them so old, broken, forgotten made me really sad. And old home with so many memories. Someone canned those vegetables with love and to see them so forgotten ... I'm so glad you shared the pictures! It is so important to see of times gone by but should NOT be forgotten. Thank you for that reminder!
